use in?  This resource is designed to review Maths Addition for Year 2 students.

Identify the strengths of this teaching resource:

The whole class can use the resource all at once. It can help the teacher to identify which student still struggle with the specific concept and it can be used to grade the students. Students is working individually so the outcomes of their knowledge towards the subject will be true to their own work.

Identify any weaknesses of this teaching resource:

The teacher have to assist the students with a username and password so that every student can be registered to play.

Explain any ideas you may have for further use of this teaching
resource:

I would like to add all the different curriculum criteria and outcomes of the Mathematics subject for Year 2. This will give teachers the opportunity to measure and grade the students all at the same time in fair way.

Digital Fluency

Digital fluency is fast becoming a requirement for employment as our society evolves around digital technology. When you are digitally fluent it involves you to use technological tools to your benefit and create meaningful and creative outcomes. Ensuring students participate in the development of skills by accessing a wide range of digital technologies within the classroom is vital in allowing them to grow as digital content creators and technology innovators (Howell, 2014).

Starting of with all my research for this project, I realised how many digital resources I can use as a teacher. Learning to understand and use all the tools that there is available digitally makes learning and teaching more exciting and meaningful. Our youth need to know how to use technology in so many ways, way not make it a source of learning in the classroom. Technology have started emergent in our schools with smart boards, and doing some research on a computer, but we can use more applications, devices, networks that will make learning pleasurable and improve student achievement.

Our education system is focused upon attaining high levels of achievement for all students, equitable opportunities for all children and youth to learn and succeed, smooth transitions, and system accountability and governance. The provision of equitable opportunities is facilitated through a variety of strategies including access to online resources, the use of assistive technology, and the availability of increased credit options via distance education. (Ministry of Education June, 2013)

My own digital fluency has improved emarkably with all the technology there is available for an educator to create useful and helpful resources to assist my students and improve their ability to achieve the best. Participation and the Digital Divide

Digital divide is which households in our community have access to computers and the internet and who don’t. We never realize how many households there are before you actually have done some research. This is especially apparent in households of lower incomes or those that have no children under the age of 15. As a result, members of these households miss out on opportunities which may benefit them from the availability of technology such as educational, social and economic opportunities (Australian Policy Online, 2014).

In our community our school is trying to close this gap of digital divide by giving all students attending access to a computer to do project research and they have the opportunity to take part in learning on a smart board that is available in the classrooms. They have started an application to communicate to parents important notices and information that they can download on the mobile phone. The parents have access to a Reward System that the school have by awarding points for good behaviour and deduct them for bad behaviour. This allow parents to view their children progress in school and at the same time be apart of technology. (Carnamah District High school). When I become a teacher I would like to give every student the opportunity to access some kind of technology.

Our society has changed so much that you need to be able to be computer literate and use different sources and technology in the workplace. If students are not given the chance to learn and use these technology sources how are they going to make a success of their lives and find a proper career? We need to get a system in place as educators to close this gap of digital divide.

Digital identities and digital security

“2012 Child Identity fraud report, sponsored by Identity Theft Assistance Center (ITAC) and conducted by Javelin Strategy and Research found that 1 in 40 households with minor children had at least one child whose personal information was compromised by identity criminals.”(parents.com) I have never realized how vulnerable our youth’s identities really are online. ‘When children are born and registered their identification numbers are copied and linked to another date of birth to create a whole new person’, says Joe Mason, senior vice president of Identity Guard.

When thinking about your digital identity, it’s the picture that you show to everyone in the outside world, it symbolizes how you want other people to see you and learn to know you. Being in a profession where you work with other people’s children everyday, think again before posting your 30th Birthday photo’s on Facebook with a glass of wine in the hand and doing silly things. What would the parents impression be about you, will they take you seriously when having a parents meeting. The worst of this is that our children do not have the knowledge of the consequences their actions have when publishing their photos and personal information online, with games they play or someone they met online. We as teachers and parents can make a difference in statistics by educating our children about the dangers of cyber bullying. ‘Children will still test their boundaries. At a Public pool we have gates, signs, lifeguards and shallow ends but we still teach our kids to swim.’(Byron Review)images (7)

I can make a difference once I am in my own class with my own students by educating them about these dangers. On Australia’s Communications website, www.communications.gov.au, there are so much useful resources to use. This lies strongly on my heart to educate our youth.
